DR Sukhi ruprai

I am a HCPC registered Senior Clinical Psychologist who has nearly 20 years of experience working with children, young people and adults struggling with complex, severe and enduring mental health conditions.

I qualified from the University of East London where I was encouraged to think about how people create and institutionalise social phenomena by constructing their perceived reality. It taught me to think about mental health diagnoses critically and to prioritise trauma-informed care. I like to take an integrative approach to therapy and endeavours to work creatively and think systemically.

I currently work in an NHS Personality Disorder & Trauma service, where I mainly use MBT and EMDR as treatment approaches. In addition to this, I work in a private eating disorders service. I am trained in Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E) and the Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA), as well as being able to offer Systemic Therapy to families. I am an accredited MBT therapist and have a particular interest in attachment theory. This model allows me to work transparently using my own mind in the room.

I hold a personal interest in working with communities that find it hard to access services and am mindful of the impact of stigma, discrimination, and marginalisation. Having observed the detrimental effects labels can have on people, I am tentative when talking about diagnoses and am aware of the power of language. While delivering evidence-based treatment, I strongly believe in working collaboratively and promoting service involvement where possible, so people can lead meaningful lives while coping with their mental health difficulties.
